In 2001 Ghana Outlook took 16 young people to Ghana in July 2001,
to participate in the building and provision of a school pavilion
and library for 150 children. The group members raised their own
costs, whilst from the regional Ghana Educational Services, pledging
their commitment to the school and library once completed. Books
and a number of tables were transported the 500 miles from Accra
to Navrongo by the educational service.
The library at Nayagina, Navrongo now serves a whole community of
7000 people.
It is also important to Ghana Outlook that the young people interact
with the local youth, so music, dance, games and sport were much
to the fore as joint activities.
The young people from the UK learnt much about the daily difficulty
of life in a 'typical' third world country.
A visit was made to the tropical forest, not only to experience
the rich diversity of life within it, but to appreciate how the
local people depend on it for many of the basic essentials of life.
