| The water supply for around 60% of the people in Ghana is still very basic. In many areas, the supply of water is from rivers and streams. Water borne diseases are not uncommon and it can lead to ill health and death. GO helps were it can to assist rural communities to development its fresh water supplies. As usual this depends on acquiring the necessary funding. The photo on the right shows the supply for a village in a rural area of the Volta Region. |  |

| One area of help that GO assists with is the distribution of Aqua boxes These are provided by the Rotary Club of the UK and sent over via Christian African Relief Trust. Each box is initially full of relief items before sending from the UK. When the box is emptied of its supplies it is fitted with a water filter that cleans up to 20 refills of water in the aqua box from the river or stream supply. This is of course is not a permanent solution but it does at least provide some clean water. Filters are replaced as and when required so long as stocks keep coming in |  |

Shown on the photo on the right we can seen aqua boxes being taken away by family members after being instructed on how to use them . One aqua box is given to each family. Before taking the boxes to the village community the village is researched to find out what their current water supply conditions are like and also the number of families within the community that require aqua boxes. |

A More permanent solution is the provision of a water borehole. The costs are greater but the end result is the knowledge that good clean water from the water table will be available and without the need for additional filters. This one in Abordahi is one of three provided. This one being situated at the school. Want to help provide clean water to a community? Good clean water is the basic requirement of all human life and yet in 2005 so many people do not have access to it. GO does what it can, but if anyone wishes to help a village community then please contact GO and we will make sure that your wishes are put to best use. |
