Dzebu 2006 water borehole project

Dzebu is one of two communities that Ghana Outlook hopes to provide with a clean and healthy water supply in 2006.

A community of 400, they have lived in the same area for over 100 years. Mainly a self subsistence community where farming the land is the main activity. The community is some distance from a town and roads.

Ghana outlook has visited the community and deemed it a project worth our efforts.

The local assemblies have offered the necessary training in the use and maintenance of the borehole once set up.

The photo opposite shows the current water supply. Basically it a man dug water hole which stream water flows into and the community access. The water is also used by the  farm animals and wild animals of the bush..

The bucket of water opposite was taken for the water supply. At the moment Ghana ranks second worldwide in guinea worm cases Nationwide, there were 4,101 reported cases of guinea worm. Other water and sanitation related diseases include diarrhoea, trachoma, cholera, hepatitis A, bilhazia, typhoid, malairia, polio, hookworm and tapeworm.

The impact of being proactive.......

  • Provision of clean water for everyone in this village
  • Securing a reliable water source within the village that is not affected by the seasons, ie, drought in the summer and floods in the wet seasons.
  • Overall improvement in health, which in turn means that children are able to attend school more regularly.
  • providing a third world community with the means to develop a safer environment for the future.
